Pruning in our lives is a life-giving process when examined in the light of viticulture, the science of growing and cultivating grape vines to make them fruitful. When growing grapes, “sucker shoots” appear healthy but drain life from the vine. This offers a vivid picture of the things we cling to that look life‑giving but are actually destructive. Lies, fear, shame, false identities, and unhealthy striving can become "sucker shoots" that drain spiritual life
