Get Basic Training
As the members of your ministry team minister to one another, Team Leaders can begin to have conversations with team members about who they believe is doing Unbound effectively according to the model. These conversations, combined with the observations of the Team Leader, will help the Team Leader decide how each team member might best serve. Besides the Team Leaders, there are five different roles that people can fill on the team:
Team Leaders are in charge of your team and are responsible for development of the ministry. They are responsible for connecting with Heart of the Father Ministries and getting trained by Heart of the Father Ministries. After they are trained, Team Leaders run the Pilot Programs and identify Trainers. Team Leaders and Trainers work together to decide who fits in what roles.
Trainers have the ability to communicate the Unbound model effectively to new team members. They are experienced as ministry leaders, and they minister often. Trainers are available for ministry days and want to help others grow. They represent the Unbound model well when they minister, they understand the nuances of Unbound ministry, and they are able to handle a variety of situations. Trainers are patient, sensitive, and encouraging – they act as a supportive coach to those they train. They can provide quality feedback that helps ministry leaders grow.
A Team Administrator is responsible for organizing and planning ministry sessions. The Team Administrator takes phone calls from people who request prayer and is able to provide the screening necessary to determine if the person is ready for ministry. The Administrator helps ensure that the ministry leader is prepared and informed going into the session, and that the person is ready to engage in the Unbound interview and ministry session. They schedule ministry sessions, ministry days, and sessions where leaders will be observed by a Trainer. The Administrator makes sure that the person has a quality leader and that leaders get the opportunities they need to grow in experience. Ministry Leaders are able to lead prayer sessions with care, sensitivity, and authority. They lead effectively and with flexibility. They can connect with the person receiving ministry and be explicit about how he or she will be led. Ministry Leaders represent and use the Unbound model well, have experience in Unbound ministry, and continue to grow by receiving feedback from Trainers regularly. They are available and trustworthy at ministry team events and ministry sessions. Intercessors are present in an Unbound ministry session to ensure a prayerful, safe, and loving atmosphere. They are responsible for lifting the person and his or her story up to God in silent prayer, and asking God for grace, courage, power, and insight for both the person and the leader. Intercessors also participates in speaking the Father’s Blessing. Ministry Leaders may also be asked to serve as Intercessors, and Intercessors can use their experience from witnessing sessions as they are being trained to become Ministry Leaders. Every ministry needs good helpers. Helpers are people who may not feel called to minister in Unbound sessions or who believe that they would serve best by helping in other capacities. Helpers can greet those who come for prayer, assist the Team Administrator and Team Leader by setting up for sessions and events, prepare refreshments and resources, and care for the environment where ministry takes place. Helpers can lead times of worship and praise at Unbound events, serve as a liaison to the community or church on behalf of the team, or design the ministry team’s website or promotions.
It takes some time for people to discern how they might best serve a team. It is good for the Team Leaders to schedule times to meet team members and share their discernment about each member’s strengths and weaknesses. It is remarkable how the Holy Spirit works over time to help each person find their place through these conversations, even though they can make us feel quite vulnerable. Having open lines of communication throughout the process helps people to feel safe and cared for.
