Recently I have been reflecting on the idea of authority.
In Abba's Heart, Neal and I wrote that authority comes from our relationship with the Father as we submit to His sovereignty and represent Him in our words and deeds. I re-read all of the verses that command that we do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks in His name. It made me wonder about the ways in which I am called to represent the Father in my sphere of influence, using my words and actions to cooperate with His grace.
Do we really believe that we have authority in His Name?
At the end of the chapter on authority in Abba's Heart, we encourage the reader to examine the ring on our finger - the symbol of authority bestowed on the Prodigal Son. What have we been empowered and authorized to do? I encourage you to spend time asking the Father to show you your sphere of influence where he has called you to walk in authority.
